The sterling ID bracelet.Once upon a time, say late 60's, very early 70's these were the bees knees. Practically every well dressed young buck sported their own monogrammed, or cursive scripted named ID bracelet. As often as not they ended up on the wrist of the young blade's current heart throb. I suspect that in many women's jewelry box there may be more than one. It was always something of a surprise to me how many guys bought these in multiples.
Way back then, they were a throw back to the military unit bracelets, which many of our dad's and other vets still wore.
I hadn't thought about these since forever, and was reminded while looking at the J Crew catalog. The one pictured above retails for $150 or so. They didn't used to cost so much.

Toad....man, what a memory this one conjures! 4th grade...Florence County Agricultural Fair. Bought the identical bracelet...silver plated alloy...the guy crudely engraved my sweetheart's name on the inside of the bracelet...I was too scared to tell her that she was my secret gal.
Within three days the thing turned my left wrist green almost to my elbow. You get what you pay for....especially at the County Fair.
Oh, I so remember the bracelets -- haven't given them a thought in years. But I thought they were a bit earlier -- late 50's?
You could buy them for your boyfriend at the drugstore in the county seat. They were in the rotating jewelry case. And definitely much more affordable--babysitting money would cover the cost.
I've always loved these. Brett bought me a vintage Tiffany one for a gift years ago. For our 10th anniversary he got a new Tiffany one.
I still have one of my old boyfriend's I.D. bracelet should I send it back to him or sell it on Ebuy?

I have a small(less than 1/4" wide)sterling silver one that I bought at Tiffany's for myself. I get tons of compliments every time I wear it.

Jumping back quite a bit here, Toad, but I have my parents' ID bracelets in my custody.
Also, one of my favorite Wonder Years episodes is about ID bracelets. "It's a Mad, Mad, Madeleine World" where Winny buys Kevin one, and he leaves it at another girl's house...
