the wizard of oz

1939 was a great year for movies.

Released on this date 70 years ago, was the first color movie, The Wizard of OZ.

The flying monkeys still scare the begeebers out of me.

Sadly, local lad and munchkin, Mickey Carroll died recently. I would see him occasionally at Uncle Harrys. He never seemed to mind if you asked him a question or two about the old days, so long as you didn't interfere with his gaming.

My favorite movie of all time.

I would have loved to have met the man. What did he play? At Harry's that is.

Ditto on the Flying Monkeys Toad. The Wizard of Oz was even more dramatic when I was a kid because it aired only once a year...sometime in the Fall...maybe around Halloween-so the buildup was huge. I tried to be cool and chime in with everyone else about how much fun it was going to be to watch it but it was a lie. All of the other tolerable scenes were eclipsed for me by the Flying Monkeys and those guards with the long wool overcoats and those head chopper off axes.

Ok...thanks for the therapy. Where do I send the check?
