Feeling old?

In their youth, white American kids, now of a certain age, divided the world into 3 mutually exclusive world views. The first, mostly female, was all Motown, all the time. A shy guy could get a paralytic to dance once she heard the opening bass lines to The Temptations, "My Girl".

The second were Beatles guys. The third worshiped at the altar of the Rolling Stones. If you doubt me, check the IPODS of early 60's survivors. Old habits die hard.

A parents lament in the early 60's went something like this, "That stuff's awful, it will be gone in a year or two. You won't be listening to that when your 70, that's for damned sure".

Today marks a milestone of sorts. Today's birthday boy, Richard Starkey turns 70.

Who'd a thunk? Never the best looking guy in a band, he's aged pretty well.

Married almost 30 years to Bond girl Barbara Bach, and still going strong.

Never did open the beauty salon he dreamed about.
Happy Birthday old guy.

Ah, saw a documentary on the Beatles this weekend -- and of course the drummer discussion came up. According to the documentary, Pete Best would be the best drummer but Ringo would be the best Beatle -- and that is how Ringo became famous and Pete Best didn't!

Can't believe he is 70!!!!

Well that sneaked up on me. Wasn't it just last week he released his solo LP? What do you mean what's a LP? Sigh...

I had a zillion older first cousins so I got an earful of all that genre in tandem. When I encountered Paul McCartney the other month here in DC, he with some plastic surgery, still looked appropriately aged and an "older Beatle". What he still had intact was that amiable affability that after all these years, must genuinely be who he is.

he never became a cowboy, either, (rumor has it he applied to the houston chamber of commerce looking for work before the beatles really hit it big) but i think he did rather well for himself....

Love the top pic of the Fab Four. Just how I remember them.
