Just can't take some people anywhere

#1 son sent this news item from Monday's Topeka Capital Journal.

Let me first set the mood. You're thinking, how can I make my little one's birthday memorable? Suppose we blow the wad, pick up grandma and head to Chuck E Cheese. A little whack-a-mole, some skee ball, a bit of fine gourmet dining. Why the heck not?

Admittedly, I am not fun, but after dark I find Chuck's just barely tolerable. Try as I might however, I haven't yet wanted to up and bash someone while there. For that I've only myself to blame. These kids will have a tough time topping this next year, or it may become a new family tradition.

Police break up brawl at Chuck E. Cheese's

Disturbance was between two families celebrating birthdays

Posted: February 20, 2011 - 6:56am

It was a case of adults behaving badly at Chuck E. Cheese's when Topeka police had to clear a brawl Saturday night at the kids-oriented restaurant on Wanamaker Road.

In a statement issued Sunday morning by Capt. Bill Cochran, the shift commander said officers responded at 8:45 p.m. Saturday to the restaurant at 2215 S.W. Wanamaker Road where they found "an active disturbance both inside and outside the business."

The disturbance began, Cochran said, "when two families celebrating different birthday events had a disagreement" and adults from both gatherings began to fight. "The situation spilled out into the parking lot, as well as inside the business," he said.

Officers dispersed the crowd and issued two citations in connection with fighting/brawling and disorderly conduct.

Once order was restored, management of the Chuck E. Cheese's, which usually stays open until 11 p.m. on Saturdays, "elected to close the business for the remainder of the night," Cochran said.

Can you imagine how grim Chuck's must be at 10:30 on a Saturday night?

Toad ... gawd's honest truth. for 3 or 4 years, my youngest's b-day corresponded with a very famous celeb's young son's b-day. each new and de rigueur venue (for kid parties) from yrs. 8 - 10 was with this woman and her clan of her kid's friends and ours. the 2nd such year was at ... wait for it ... chuck e cheese's. we couldn't believe how down to earth this celeb was. on year 3, i finally said something to her at the go-kart track and we had a good chuckle. who knew chuck's joint was the great equalizer. causing brawls, yes.

Unbelievable - and how sad for the kids who were celebrating his/her birthdays. Way to be role models, adults. My daughter's 6th birthday is next week - we will be going out to dinner, but it won't be Chuckie Cheese and hopefully no fights will break out in the restaurant. :)

Several years ago a Chuck E. Cheese opened near the freeway. Soon Baby Mama Drama ensued. Yes. It seems a woman took the child of her former lover to Chuck's to celebrate with her Lover Du Jour. Baby Daddy shows up, pays entry fee and pursues Lover Du Jour. Violence supervenes, spills into parking lot, whereupon Baby Daddy conjures a gun and shoots at Lover Du Jour.
When the police arrive they see about a hundred little faces pushed against the window glass inside and suburban parents lined up in their SUV's in the parking lot attempting to flee the carnage.
You can't make this stuff up!
As an aside, my husband arrived on the scene and was disappointed to discover that disarming a felon in the parking lot of Chuck E. Cheese does not garner points to be redeemed for crap made in China.

Worst venue for food and games ever!
Went once to one of these from a Bday invite for my kid's friend, and my 5 year old asked me if we could never go there again. Worst food on Earth.

Not surprising given the low brow element that usually can be found at the Chuck of Cheese.....

Main Line...that was extraordinarily rude. It makes you look petty.

JMW with a bit of coaxing we could perhaps arrange a never to be forgotten bit of excitement for your darling daughter.

What I meant by that, Main Line, is that we take our child to Chuck E. Chesse every now and then and I have mostly seen middle class Americans.
Dude, you hurt my feelings!

Big Birthday this Friday. Maybe we'll stroll on down the road to this very same Chuck E Cheese. See if we can find some action.

Is it wrong to bet on kids playing Skee-Ball?

Through a stroke of luck, my children have never been. A friend told me once that heading into a birthday party, there were a group of parents (not from her crew) in the parking lot getting high. Most excellent.
