What it was, was football

It's hard to imagine that when television was in its infancy, Andy Griffith, AKA Opie's pop, Sheriff Andy Taylor began his performing career as a stand up comedian. This bit, released in 1953 as a 78 or a 45 RPM record (ask your parents) gives an early glimpse of his mostly unchanging style. What it was was describes a strangers visit to a football game. Refer back often to refresh your memories of the sport during the coming strike.

Hope you enjoy.

Thanks for the happy memories. I guess my dad had the 45, I remember his playing it for me and my brother. I have to say I didn't get much of it at the time, of course, I knew nothing about football!

We played that thing so many times I can almost say a bunch of it by heart, 'What It Was' was one track on a larger collection of his material on an old LP, I remember another LP we had from around that era w/ a bunch of Jonathan Winters'recorded material.
