Raise your hand, if after your New Years resolution to drop a few pounds went south, you now secretly plan to include a weight loss nudge in whatever you have given up for Lent. If there are fewer than 2 of you, someone's lying. You should give that up too.
While not a Lenten thing with me, I have been trying to give some weight back. My inspiration is star of stage and screen, comedian Drew Carey.
Drew was an unhappy fat man. His mother had just died, he had heart disease and physically felt miserable. That's when he decided to do something about it.
I've a few years on him, but when we started, Drew and I were about the same size. I'd been toiling away in the wilderness, when I read a story about him in Parade, and his plan to drop 92 pounds in a year.
Damned if he didn't do it. My timescale isn't so ambitious, but the goal is the same. Everyday, I am nudged by this Drew quote.
“Eating crappy food is not a reward—it’s a punishment.”
If you too are struggling for motivation, remember the Nike motto. Just do it. You'll be glad you did.

Nah, I received a gym membership for Christmas, and since I'm STILL unemployed, have decided that I have little excuse to not lose the 30lbs I gained during my last job. Ergo, I have assumed the mantle of "gym rat". I now peddle, run, lift and push heavy things about with the rest of the hamster population, and have lost an almighty 10lbs. The last 20 are going to be a bitch.
I haven't had beer in a month. Please kill me.
...also, what in HELL is that man wearing?
Good for you and Mr Carey. I really like the header art.
I cut out that very same article for DOTR, which he read and then ignored....until his usual weight loss method of eating less and walking didn't produce any results and he finally got serious. Of course, before what he calls his "sugar rehab", his idea of eating less meant having 2 slices of bread instead of 4 and 3 beers instead of a 6 pack.
One of my favorite Libertarians! Free Will, as you know, is a bitch! LOL! Now people might listen to him spout on about the libertarian mantra, "personal responsibility"!
Toad, please stay healthy so that you live a long, long, happy life! I need your input in my grumpy little world!
I think you will do it!
My Lenten promise is no more bad words when playing paddle and driving- so very hard.
And my new weight loss program is quite easy- newly diagnosed hyper-thyroid. Not something you want. Only benefit is weight loss.
Your header is amazing and so are you :)
Good Lord, I barely recognized him. Probably wouldn't if you hadn't said who it was.
Well, I don't want to sound smug, but I DID join Quick Weight Loss in January and I AM losing. 20 pounds so far, with 15 to go. And it hasn't been too bad. And I'm OLD, which makes it even harder to lose weight. And I have a food blog. Lots of strikes against me, but I'm hanging in there.
Stick with it. I know you can do it.
This is the year that I too plan to get rid of my middle aged spread, before it spreads too far, and I'm too middle aged to enjoy my life!
:-)
He looks great. And, the new header is very nice.
