Hope

The holiday niceness has finally begun to take its toll. I feel a need to let loose my inner male, or at least give it a winter airing before bottling it up until spring.

Rephrasing Yonks who asked over the weekend that if the Mayans are correct and come the winter solstice next year we're toast what would you want to accomplish this year?, I'd wonder how to spend that last day. Your answer may depend upon where you lie on the belief in the afterlife continuum.

Given assurances that in fact the Earth and all on it were going to perish later in the day, my final moments would likely be unpleasant for Lauren Hutton, who probably has her own plans, which likely don't include me.

As long as the probability of universal destruction is low, I took comfort from a recent J Crew catalog. Like Ralph, J. Crew is allergic to using adult women as models, perhaps because there are so few whom "toothpick" pants would flatter. Accidently perhaps, Ms. Hutton appeared in J Crew ads once upon a time. Looks like her granddaughter, the one with the American teeth, has replaced her.

Zank heaven, for very tall, 'tween girls who like to play dress up. Now that I have that out of my system...

Alexis Bittar

Cruising through the Sunday Styles section I came across an ad for Alexis Bittar (above). Feeding off yesterday's post I wondered where Lauren was when they nominated for most desirable. Too many were noticeably absent from the list.

Lauren has a decade plus on me, and it was good to see that Ms. Hutton is willing and a merchant bold enough to show her looking her age, without benefit of obvious/overt Photoshopping. Alexis's web site video features a decidedly mature woman. It's not often an adult appears in fashion spreads. I applaud Mr. Bittar, and wish more did the same.

women we could love, given time

A pox on Chico's, the women's fashion retailer.

First they reopen old wounds by dragging all American California girl Lauren Hutton back into the spotlight.

Now they include the beautiful French model and actress Magali Amadei in their catalogs for our edification.

I realize my eyes may be the next thing to go, but in a certain light, Magali looks like she could pass as Lauren's darker haired, better ivoried... what? Granddaughter?

God forgive me.

Women We Love

In those halcyon days of my youth, long before the Farah Fawcett's of the world introduced soft porn posters as decorations for young men's rooms, there she was.

She was on the cover of every girls magazine for more than a decade, kicked off only if Princess Di needed air time. Manboys of a certain age lusted mightily for her, and did so for decades.

Darned if she hasn't returned, still hot, just shy of 70. I thought I had gotten her out of my system, but it doesn't appear to be the case.

Many thanks to Chico's and the mailman.
