"Tobacco is a stinking weed
It was the Devil sow'd the seed,
It drains the purse & fouls the clothes,
And makes a chimney of the nose."
From Sleeper by Woody Allen
WELL, HE'S FULLY RECOVERED,
EXCEPT FOR A FEW
MINOR KINKS.
HAS HE ASKED
FOR ANYTHING SPECIAL ?
YES, THIS MORNING
FOR BREAKFAST HE REQUESTED SOMETHING
CALLED WHEAT GERM, ORGANIC HONEY
AND TIGER'S MILK.
OH, YES. THOSE WERE
THE CHARMED SUBSTANCES...
THAT SOME YEARS AGO
WERE FELT TO CONTAIN
LIFE-PRESERVING PROPERTIES.
YOU MEAN
THERE WAS NO DEEP FAT ? NO STEAK OR CREAM PIES
OR HOT FUDGE ?
THOSE WERE THOUGHT
TO BE UNHEALTHY, PRECISELY THE OPPOSITE
OF WHAT WE NOW KNOW TO BE TRUE.
INCREDIBLE....
HERE. YOU SMOKE THIS, AND
BE SURE YOU GET THE SMOKE
DEEP DOWN INTO YOUR LUNGS.
I DON'T SMOKE.
IT'S TOBACCO. IT'S ONE OF THE HEALTHIEST
THINGS FOR YOUR BODY.
NOW GO AHEAD. YOU NEED ALL THE STRENGTH
YOU CAN GET.
Suppose Sleeper was correct. You wake up tomorrow only to learn the smoke vigilantes are wrong, not only is smoking good for you, it's cool too.
How long before you too light up?

When I quit 21 years ago, I'd say in about roughly a nanosecond. Now that cigarettes are what...$7 a pack? Seriously. Heroin would probably be cheaper.
I'd re-engage the cigar. But only if the prices went down.
I am ashamed to admit it was monetary considerations, not health, that lead me to quit.
Thanks to higher excise taxes the Nanny Government saved you from yourselves! Aren't you glad they know what's best for us? *WINK*
Unfortunately, since having quit smoking I've discovered how much it does actually *stink*. I think smokers look strange these days, sort of like folks walking around with strings coming out of their ears or with their neck cricked to one side or with both hands glued together to a phone or game in front of them. But then, I've never been very cool.
Right away, but back by the woodpile so i won't be seen or stink up the house!
I never did cigs, but am/was a long time unrepentant cigar smoker. I still buy a box periodically, just in case, but I'm down to 2 or 3 cigars a year. I'd be back in a heartbeat.
six or so cigars a year, max. one or two bummed cigs a year at a bar or club from a lithe, six ft. tall, model type at some industry event when i need to get outside to get a break from the noise, noise, noise of the bass, bass, bass.
