The King is Dead, Long Live the Queen

On this day in 1952 British King George VI died at Sandringham. Two days later the Accession Council met and Elizabeth, by "consent of tongue and heart", is declared Queen. She was crowned on June 2, 1953. Sixty years on, she's still at it. God save the Queen.

With her Mom's genes she will have the honor of the longest reigning monarch -- replacing Victoria in another 4 years!

Three cheers for Elizabeth II, Queen of England -- Hip, hip, hooray!

Handsome man, George VI. Could take a lesson from you in natty attire.

Ahhhh, now we see the genetics that went into the making of her son, Andrew.

Wallis's husband described Bertie as the natty one. He is also supposedly the creator of the 6:1 DB jacket.

It's hard to believe Elizabeth has been on the throne that long. I loved the film, "The King's Speech." Great insight into King George's life.

I believe the individual in the photo is the Duke of Kent (died WW II), younger brother of Edward VIII and George VI.
