Just in time

The Holiday adverts are in the post, the stores are decorated, the music will start way too soon.  What do you get for the guy/gal on your list who has most everything?  The Ship of Fools has the answer.

Nativity Rubber Ducks

"Perfect for Baptist churches, we present the world's first water-resistant nativity. Yes, it's the decisive moment in salvation history presented in the medium of the rubber duck. Take them home with you and you can remember the Bethlehem story while wallowing in a hot bath.

Featuring: Joseph sporting a Beatles moptop... three bird-brained wise men, the famous spotted duck of Bethlehem, and the Blessed Virgin in blue with the Holy Duckling tucked under her wing – having just laid (and then hatched) him in a manger.

Best of all, there's the duck at the back who's been crossed with a sheep. Perhaps he's the smartest of the lot. He's probably realized the awful truth – that for ducks, the future isn't bright. The future's
à l'orange.

Get your nativity rubber ducks here for $3.95."

Superman was a what?

Have you ever concerned yourself wondering about the religious affiliations of your favorite comic book heroes? Someone has.

While paging through the Ship of Fools web site over the weekend I was redirected to the Adherants.com site, which answers all your super hero and other comic character's religious questions save for the obvious one. You may explore it at your leisure here.

roll on christmas

I know it's too early, but when the times comes you'll be too caught up in the season to ever catch up. That's why I'm here.

I've mentioned before one of my favorite web sites is Ship of Fools, the self described magazine of Christian unrest. I find it irreverent, funny, and politically incorrect.

To get their readers into the spirit of the upcoming holidays, Ship of Fools has created a Facebook game that all may play, Roll on Christmas. You select which of your Facebook friends gets what role in the Christmas pageant, and their visage will appear as a character, in a 2 minute video. In the end the message is serious and all is well.

Begins November 18, and might even get me to Facebook, but I wouldn't count on it.

Maybe-Maybe Not

I had been reading the NYT wedding section, amazed at the volume of non church weddings officiated by Aunt Marg who was granted a temporary license by the state for the day to marry anyone she may come into contact with when I came across this. Seemed fitting in a way.

True.

The certficate declares:
I ________ having been subjected to the Rite of Christian Baptism in infancy (before reaching an age of consent), hereby publicly revoke any implications of that Rite and renounce the Church that carried it out. In the name of human reason, I reject all its Creeds and all other such superstition in particular, the perfidious belief that any baby needs to be cleansed by Baptism of alleged ORIGINAL SIN, and the evil power of supposed demons. I wish to be excluded henceforth from enhanced claims of church membership numbers based on past baptismal statistics used, for example, for the purpose of securing legislative privilege.”

I found this on one of my favorite sites, The Ship of Fools, an unofficial Church of England site. Mail in 3 GBP and you're off the list. If you haven't any GBP's, drop me a fiver and I take care of the rest.

Sponsored by the National Secular Society, who have made a killing off the sales. Or click your heels 3 times and say.....
