Today's birthday boy most likely travels unrecognized. Those under 40 may, unless their parents had a bit of funk, have never heard of the man. If you came of age during the Age of Aquarius at one time you could recite all 18 minutes of his magnum opus. Even then, knowing more than 2 of his songs qualified as fandom.
