Taily Day

Now that we are Scottish we need celebrate Taily Day (from the Scottish Tailie: to impress oneself).

It's been said, lovingly by some, that Scots are a bit slow on the uptake. A familiar story reminds travelers to never tell a Scot a joke on Saturday for fear he'll laugh in church on Sunday. Taily Day takes advantage of that, a day of joviality, every April 2. A day set aside for buttocks pranks and jokes. A fest which ultimately does not travel well.

The "kick me" sign is the funniest, my dour countrymen could come up with.

Should you ever wonder why Benny Hill and Monty Python were hung up on butt and flatulence jokes, blame the Scots. Everyone else does.

Pure breed Scot here, proud owner of one of these, don't hold it against me, as you say it's not my fault:

  4. Aye, we are a strange breed aren't we? Yet, one of the things that I remember about the family from Glasgow and Aberdeen was the constant laughs we shared. Funny folks indeed!

The first time around, my absorption was such that I'm not even sure I was breathing in and out; but this time around after two episodes, I can barely look at the massacres and the heaps of bodies, had to turn it off early last night, didn't even stay for U.S. Grant bio. Too timely, I suppose.
