canned scones

Regular readers will recall that I'm rarely allowed unescorted in grocery stores. My bride and I usually disagree on what is a grocery essential, she taking the blinkered view. If I promise not to rush I'm allowed to accompany her because I remember where we're parked. In cold weather this is key.

Last night I discover canned scones. Canned scones may be as old as the hills but are new to me. No one makes better scones than you and your mother so I wonder that someone would bother. Are they any good?

  1. I'm so envious! I can't even get canned biscuits here in Britain! I'll take a buttermilk biscuit over a scone any day...then again, they are both fattening so perhaps it's just as well.

  2. I am baking the buttermilk biscuits from the same company at this moment... a regular breakfast item here. I imagine the scones are just as good. Gotta run... bacon nearly finished frying.

  3. I've never heard of canned scones. I don't like canned biscuits. Believe it or not, my Southern Mama doesn't make homemade biscuits, she uses frozen. I would be afraid that the canned scones would have that canned biscuit taste.

  4. Just say 'no'. If you're going to use a calorie coupon, go for the best you can get.

  5. Not everyone has time to gather ingredients, wrangle children, make breakfast, bake scones and clean up all before 9am. I think these are a brilliant idea! When I am rushed I use those crescents in a tube rolled with mustard, ham and cheese...no one has ever complained about them.

  6. I'm a child of 60's suburbia, anything canned, bagged or frozen brings back fond memories!

  7. You have convinced me to at least give them a try. Can't hurt, can it?

  8. Sorry to say, I thought they were dreadful. Much prefer a box mix on the rare occasion I make them. I have to admit I've never tried to make them from scratch; here in the South it's all about biscuits.
