Double Breasted tweed

By actual count I have more than my share of tweed jackets in my closets. Irish tweed, Manx tweed, Harris tweed, and the odd mutt thrown in for good measure. Not a double breasted in the mix. Rarer than hens teeth, Ben Silver is showing 2 this season.

Nice tweed, but to my eye something appears off. Perhaps it's the juxtaposition of the casual tweed and the more formal peaked lapels.

I'm all over wearing the unexpected, and applaud the man who can wear this, but if this is such a great idea why don't we see it more often? Makes a better suit coat than odd jacket, don't ya think? Just saying.

  1. I so agree with that! The peaked lapels are distracting and "unTweed-like". Those are lovely fabrics, though...

  2. I would say that definitely the more classic single breasted and smaller lapels is more timely.
I do love a tweed jacket on a man.

  3. Absolutely correct. For most men, it would be tough to pull this off...something is just not right so the wearer would have to be in shape and handsome to get away with this. Then again, in shape and handsome let's you get away with a lot.

  4. These male models and backdrops are tragic. Wrong, all wrong. John Edwards hair guy clasping own hands, clueless look on face, buttoned into ill-fitting product. Piano man sporting similar lifeless overbred grin with dissonant pocket square. The jackets are promising, they need to be worn/shown with a dash of virile country squire vibe i.e a turtleneck and a dog, outdoors.

  5. I don't like it, but then I'm no fan of double breasted.

  6. One of the perks of working for Ben Silver is that employees get to model for the catalogs. Ergo, we can forgive the non professional poses from the non professionals, barely.

  7. I love Ben Silver and I love these fabrics but I dont care for a DB tweed. I would look like a barn in these. I like my DBs to be sleek finished wool from Italy.

  8. I think that tweed is too heavy for a double breasted profile...hot too! But I do love tweed. Silver's three piece tweed suit is to die for.
